It’s not everyday we get to spend time out of the office with our clients, but this year we were lucky enough to be invited to the FTA Multimodal Awards as guests of Grange Shipping.
Multimodal is an annual expo held at the NEC in Birmingham. It’s the biggest freight industry event in the UK and each year an awards dinner is held to recognise the achievements of companies across the industry. The winners are all decided by public votes as are the nominees. We worked with Grange Shipping to gather nominations for the 3PL of the Year category through a campaign covering email marketing and social networking. This helped secure them a place on the shortlist – no mean feat when considering the size of the other companies nominated.
As this year is the 40th anniversary for the company, Director, John Grange, very kindly invited us along to the awards dinner. We visited the Grange Shipping stand at the show and took the opportunity to see what other companies are doing in terms of branding and marketing – always an eye opener! Some of the stands were more akin to a coffee shop than a stand at an expo but it’s always interesting to see how competitors with deep pockets are branding themselves. There’s always inspiration to be had.
The dinner itself was fantastic. The Grange table placed at the front, the food was, as expected, delicious and compare for the evening, Steve Davis, was sharp as a tack, very funny, very dry and very gracious sticking around after the dinner to chat with guests and have photos taken.
It was also great to meet some of Grange’s clients who work in a number of different industries. It gave us a real insight into the complexities of logistics and the diversity of businesses that rely on companies like Grange Shipping.
Unfortunately Grange didn’t take home the prize that evening. That went to logistics behemoths, Kuehne + Nagel, but with a third place showing out of 8 companies, spirits remained high.
Thanks again to Grange for their hospitality and for a wonderful evening. We look forward to trying for that top spot again next year!
