We were doubly gratified when Aviva invited us to participate in a competitive pitch for the design and construction of an intranet network for their prestigious Head Office, St Helen’s Tower in the City of London. Firstly, because an organisation of the scale of Aviva had acknowledged the quality of a modestly-sized agency outside London. And secondly, because they had recognised an essential feature of the BAAM offering – that we are as accomplished in the technical aspects of digital communication as we are in the fields of creative design and strategy.
The brief was to create a local network to enable employees to communicate quickly and reliably on subjects as diverse as the dissemination of security alerts, the reporting of faulty equipment and the notification of social events. Given the nature of Aviva’s business, rigorous security was essential. And of course, the system would need to be robust, simple to use and easy to update and maintain.
From a design perspective, we were required to follow Aviva’s comprehensive brand guidelines – and within those parameters to create an architecture that was clean, attractive and easily navigable.
Our response to the brief won us the business. Beyond essential features such as multiple levels of access for administrators, our proposal provided some useful additional functions.
For instance, an external interface allowed visitors to locate parking spaces and to navigate their way around the Tower. It even recommended good places to eat within easy walking distance!
We also designed the network to serve third-party tenants within the building, without compromising the vital security dimension.
The client was impressed by our combination of technical sophistication and elegant design – and we were delighted to be able to create a single solution that demonstrated two of the agency’s special competencies.
